During a Special Called Commission Meeting held on Tuesday, February 17, former Commissioners James Barker, Philip Badcock, and Dannell Marks formally offered their resignations. In her remarks, former commissioner Marks expressed appreciation for the dedication and professionalism of airport staff, acknowledging their commitment to the organization during challenging circumstances.
Chairwoman Marsh stated, “Leadership is not an easy task, and transition does not define an institution; stability collaboration and forward progress do. I am absolutely proud of the team we have, of the team that is to come and the great work we will do together. The airport is an economic engine for our region supporting workforce mobility, tourism, business recruitment, and regional competitiveness.”
The remaining board members accepted the resignations and subsequently identified two nominees to submit to City Council to fulfill the remaining terms of two of the vacated seats. Columbus Airport to Host Groundbreaking Ceremony for Runway 6-24

Press Release

Press Release

Submitted On: 18 July 2025

COLUMBUS, GA July 2025- Columbus Airport (CSG) is proud to announce the official groundbreaking for the full reconstruction of Runway 6-24, one of the airport’s two primary runways. Due to decades of wear and tear and underlying storm drainage issues, the 6,997-foot asphalt runway will undergo a comprehensive rebuild beginning this August.
The reconstruction comes following an in-depth geotechnical assessment that included site reconnaissance, soil test borings, and sampling evaluations. The findings concluded that a complete runway overhaul is required. The project will include removal and replacement of the asphalt surface and base materials, installation of a new longitudinal drainage system, and replacement of storm drains located beneath the runway.
The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., and will be attended by members of the Columbus Airport Commission, airport leadership, and local city and state representatives.
The 103-day construction project is estimated to cost $24 million and will require the full closure of Runway 6-24, temporarily suspending all commercial, military, and large general aviation operations. During this time, Runway 13-31, the airport’s secondary runway, will remain operational except for a brief period when both runways will be closed as contractors work through the intersection.
Located at 3250 W. Britt David Road in Columbus, Georgia, Columbus Airport serves as a vital regional and public-use facility for Muscogee, Russell, and Harris counties, as well as Ft. Benning. The airport provides both commercial airline service and general aviation operations, supporting the transportation needs of west-central Georgia and east-central Alabama.

COLUMBUS, GA April 2025- Columbus Airport will host a public Town Hall meeting in partnership with Holt Consulting LLC, to provide information and answer questions regarding the upcoming full reconstruction of Runway 6/24. The project addresses issues stemming from decades of routine wear and tear and storm drain deterioration beneath the runway.

The Town Hall will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 5:30 PM at Columbus Airport’s Main Terminal, 2nd Floor. Light refreshments will be served.
Columbus Airport operates two asphalt runways:
• Runway 6/24: 6,997 feet long by 150 feet wide
• Runway 13/31: 3,997 feet long by 75 feet wide
A geotechnical assessment of Runway 6/24—which included site reconnaissance, soil borings, and sampling—determined the need for complete reconstruction. The project will involve full removal and replacement of the existing asphalt and base materials, installation of new storm drainage lines beneath the runway, and the addition of a longitudinal drainage system alongside the pavement.

Construction is anticipated to begin in August 2025 and will span a continuous 103-day period at an estimated cost of $22.2 million funded through FAA and GDOT grants. During this time, Runway 6/24—the primary runway—will be closed, suspending all commercial, large general aviation, and military operations. Runway 13/31 will remain open for general aviation operations, except for a brief 30-day period when both runways will be closed to accommodate work at the runway intersection.

COLUMBUS, GA May 2024- Columbus Airport joins a global network of over 200 airports in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program. This move will enable those living with a hidden disability in the region to access the Sunflower. The Sunflower lanyard indicates to those around the wearer that they are a person of determination with a hidden disability and may require support, understanding or a little more time. The airport will provide the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard and badging system to anyone that has a hidden or visible disability or a caregiver of a person that has a disability at no charge.
This initiative promises to foster a culture of understanding, accommodation, and support for individuals with hidden disabilities—ushering in a new era of inclusivity across both public and private sectors. Around the world, 1 in 7 people live with some form of disability. And 80% of these disabilities are non-visible; that’s over 1 billion people with an invisible disability. There is a significant opportunity for businesses to develop their awareness of invisible disabilities, and the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower provides the tools to do this.
Organizations that register with Hidden Disabilities Sunflower are provided with training to enable colleagues to become more confident in assisting customers or colleagues wearing the Sunflower. This could mean giving them more time to prepare or process information, using clear verbal language or allowing them to remain with their families at all times throughout the travel process.
Hidden Disabilities Sunflower has been successfully operating in the UK since 2016 and has operations in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, and, the Nordics, the UAE and Ireland. It is recognized in over 50 countries worldwide.
