Leadership Opportunity Coming Soon at Columbus Airport

COLUMBUS, Ga. — The Columbus Airport is preparing to begin the search for its next Chief of Public Safety, a key leadership position responsible for advancing the Airport’s commitment to safety, security, service, and operational excellence.

The search follows the resignation of the Airport’s previous Chief of Public Safety. As the Airport moves forward with this leadership transition, its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of public safety and operational readiness remains unchanged.

The Chief of Public Safety plays an essential role in leading the dedicated professionals who protect Columbus Airport’s passengers, employees, tenants, visitors, and broader airport community. The position provides leadership and oversight for the Airport’s public safety operations, including both law enforcement and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) responsibilities.

As the Columbus Airport enters this next chapter, airport leadership is grateful for the continued support of the Columbus community and surrounding region.

COLUMBUS, GA September 2023- On Sunday, September 17, 2023, Columbus Airport Firefighter personnel received a mutual aid request from Columbus Fire Department in regard to a fire incident at a metals recycler off 10th Avenue, in Columbus, Georgia.
Columbus Airport firefighter personnel were dispatched to the scene where a high-grade foam was applied to the fire due to its chemical foam makeup and ability to extinguish high heat fires which enabled the team to cool down the heat and start the process of extinguishing the fire.
Chief of Public Safety, Jerome Turner stated that “Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles are equipped to handle high heat fire incidents usually from the scene of burning aircraft and jet fuel. Columbus Airport is our hometown airport because of our commitment to service and self-sustainability. We are here to assist all our first responders within our region.”
The airport is a regional and public use airport in Columbus Georgia located at 3250 W. Britt David Road servicing the Muscogee, Russell and Harris County region and Ft. Moore respectively with commercial airline and general aviation service.

COLUMBUS, GA February 2022- Thursday, September 8th 2022 at 1:30 p.m. the Columbus Airport’s Public Safety Department will perform a live gunshot detection emergency exercise at the Columbus Airport with AmberBox Gunshot Detection system.
The exercise will consist of a live gunshot using blank ammunition in the airport terminal and administrative offices where the systems will report as Airport Police respond to the alert.
