COLUMBUS, Ga. (August 17, 2026) —The Columbus Airport Commission today announced a strategic leadership structure that positions Columbus Airport for its next phase of growth reinforcing its commitment to professional leadership, continuous education, and informed decision-making in support of the airport’s long-term success.
As part of this transition, Amber Clark, A.A.E., who has served as Airport Director, will move into the newly developed position of Senior Director where she will focus on advancing strategic growth initiatives, commercial partnerships, customer experience, marketing, community engagement, business, air service and organizational development.
Since joining the Columbus Airport Commission, Clark has led significant improvements, including the successful completion of the Runway 6-24 reconstruction project, major infrastructure investments, stronger airline partnerships, and initiatives that have enhanced airport operations, economic development, and the overall passenger experience.
“This transition reflects where we believe the future of the Columbus Airport is headed,” said Commissioner Dee Marsh, Chair of the Columbus Airport Commission. “Amber has been instrumental in advancing the airport over the past several years, and dedicating executive leadership to growth and strategic development will allow us to build on that momentum while continuing to enhance the passenger experience.
The Commission will begin a nationwide search for a new Executive Director to lead the airport’s day-to-day operations and execution of its strategic initiatives. To ensure the highest caliber of candidates, the Commission will engage a nationally recognized executive search firm specializing in airport leadership recruitment.
“This is not simply about filling a position,” said Marsh. “We are committed to pursuing opportunities that will benefit our community for years to come and help the airport reach its full potential. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to building on the strong foundation already established while bringing the very best leadership to Columbus.
The new organizational structure reflects the Commission’s commitment to strong leadership, operational excellence, and responsible financial management. It positions the airport to adapt to industry changes, pursue new opportunities, attract investment, and continue providing outstanding service to passengers, tenants, and the community.
Clark expressed excitement about focusing on the airport’s long-term growth and future opportunities.
“I am excited for this next chapter,” said Clark. “This new role allows me to focus on growing the airport, strengthening partnerships, enhancing the customer experience, and supporting our outstanding team. I look forward to working alongside our future Executive Director as we continue moving Columbus Airport forward.”
The Commission’s has also participated in a comprehensive board training led by nationally recognized aviation expert Dr. Kimberly A. Kenville, Ph.D., C.M., who provided an in-depth understanding of airport governance, fiduciary responsibilities, and industry best practices. The training reinforced the importance of distinguishing day-to-day operational management from long-term strategic leadership, leading the Commission to determine that restructuring the executive leadership model would strengthen organizational effectiveness, enhance the airport’s ability to pursue future opportunities, and ensure the continued delivery of exceptional service to the community.
Airports operate in one of the nation’s most highly regulated industries, requiring oversight of federal compliance, infrastructure, financial stewardship, economic development, and public safety. Through progressive strategic priorities, the Columbus Airport Commission continues to strengthen its leadership and support informed decision-making.
The Commission expects to begin the executive search in the coming weeks and will provide updates throughout the process.

Columbus Airport Commission Advances Plans for Vertiport, Positioning CSG for Advanced Air Mobility
Press Release

Columbus Airport (KCSG) | 706-324-2449 ext. 1422 | soverton@flycolumbusga.com
COLUMBUS, Ga. (July 14, 2026) — The Columbus Airport Commission, with assistance from Choose Columbus, is advancing plans to develop a vertiport at Columbus Airport (KCSG), a dedicated landing and charging facility designed to support electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Currently in the design and scoping phase with engineering firm Holt Consulting, the project would position Columbus among the first regional airports in Georgia to develop infrastructure purpose-built for the next generation of air mobility.
The proposed facility, designated Vertiport Site 1, is designed to FAA standards and sized to accommodate a range of eVTOL aircraft, including the Archer Midnight, an all-electric aircraft manufactured in Covington, Georgia. Midnight is designed to transport passengers on short regional routes using electric propulsion, offering quieter operation and reduced emissions compared with conventional helicopters.
The proposed site includes a 56-foot touchdown and liftoff area, a 112-foot final approach and takeoff area, and a 140-foot safety area. Additional improvements include pavement enhancements, fence relocation, and in-pavement lighting. A key component of the project is an electric aircraft charging station, infrastructure the airport is developing in coordination with BETA Technologies, whose electric aircraft rely on this type of charging system.
The project is being coordinated with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), which has spent the past several years developing the regulatory and planning framework for advanced air mobility across the state. GDOT’s Advanced Air Mobility Blueprint and Action Plan identifies vertiports as critical infrastructure supporting future applications ranging from regional passenger transportation to rural air commuter service.
Georgia continues to position itself as a national leader in advanced air mobility. In 2025, the Georgia General Assembly considered vertiport legislation intended to establish the regulatory foundation for future air taxi operations. State leaders have described a vision for a statewide “lily pad network” of interconnected vertiports, while GDOT and the North Carolina Department of Transportation have announced plans for an interstate advanced air mobility corridor connecting Atlanta and Charlotte. With eVTOL manufacturers such as Archer Aviation manufacturing aircraft in Covington, Georgia, the Columbus Airport vertiport would connect the region directly to Georgia’s growing aerospace and advanced aviation ecosystem.
“This airport must run like a business, and that means looking at every reasonable opportunity to generate new revenue and attract new activity,” said Dee Marsh, Chairwoman of the Columbus Airport Commission. “Advanced air mobility is coming to Georgia whether we plan for it or not. We would rather Columbus be prepared to lead than watch these opportunities develop somewhere else.”
“This project reflects real collaboration, with Choose Columbus, local business leaders, and the Columbus Council all playing a part in getting it this far,” said Amber Clark, A.A.E., Airport Director of Columbus Airport. “The charging infrastructure is central to that flexibility, and our work with BETA Technologies has directly informed how we’re building it. This is the kind of forward planning that keeps Columbus positioned to compete as this industry grows.”
Beyond supporting future aviation operations, the project strengthens the region’s long-term economic development strategy by preparing Columbus to attract emerging aerospace industries, support workforce development, and expand future transportation options as commercial eVTOL operations become available.
The vertiport is one of several capital improvement projects currently in development at Columbus Airport. Additional projects include a planned aviation maintenance training facility in partnership with Columbus Technical College and improvements to the airport’s rental car quick turnaround facility. The Commission expects to provide updates regarding project funding, construction timelines, and implementation as planning and design progress.
Final design and construction will proceed in accordance with applicable Federal Aviation Administration guidance and regulatory requirements.

“This is a direct result of our community choosing to fly local,” said Amber Clark, Airport Director for Columbus Airport. “When travelers support their hometown airport, airlines take notice. The arrival of the Boeing 717 demonstrates that Columbus and the surrounding region have the demand necessary to support larger aircraft and expanded opportunities for air service growth.”
For Columbus Airport, the arrival of the Boeing 717 represents more than just a larger aircraft—it is an investment in the future of air service for the region. Every passenger who chooses to begin their journey at CSG helps strengthen the airport’s ability to attract additional service, larger aircraft, and future air service opportunities.

Columbus Airport to Host Groundbreaking Ceremony for Runway 6-24
Press Release
Press Release
From: Sonya Overton, Director of Marketing & Air Service Development
Submitted On: 18 July 2025
COLUMBUS, GA July 2025- Columbus Airport (CSG) is proud to announce the official groundbreaking for the full reconstruction of Runway 6-24, one of the airport’s two primary runways. Due to decades of wear and tear and underlying storm drainage issues, the 6,997-foot asphalt runway will undergo a comprehensive rebuild beginning this August.
The reconstruction comes following an in-depth geotechnical assessment that included site reconnaissance, soil test borings, and sampling evaluations. The findings concluded that a complete runway overhaul is required. The project will include removal and replacement of the asphalt surface and base materials, installation of a new longitudinal drainage system, and replacement of storm drains located beneath the runway.
The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., and will be attended by members of the Columbus Airport Commission, airport leadership, and local city and state representatives.
The 103-day construction project is estimated to cost $24 million and will require the full closure of Runway 6-24, temporarily suspending all commercial, military, and large general aviation operations. During this time, Runway 13-31, the airport’s secondary runway, will remain operational except for a brief period when both runways will be closed as contractors work through the intersection.
Located at 3250 W. Britt David Road in Columbus, Georgia, Columbus Airport serves as a vital regional and public-use facility for Muscogee, Russell, and Harris counties, as well as Ft. Benning. The airport provides both commercial airline service and general aviation operations, supporting the transportation needs of west-central Georgia and east-central Alabama.
